Bella

Bella did not have an easy start in life. Not spayed, got charmed by a Rottweiler, dumped at a shelter, rescued to a home but, inadvertently mauled by their family Boxers while protecting her pups.

When I met her she had stitches in her belly, leg and bruises in various places. So I agreed to foster her care during her R & R. However, during that time she worked her ways on me. Polite, intelligent and great temperament. Yes she has a home here.

Now that Bella has recovered she spends her time sleeping on the couch, watching TV and eating Snausages. She also enjoys her 1/4 acre fenced back yard, especially playing fence chase with the neighbor dogs. And best of all, this winter she let me share the couch and kept me warm, inside and out.

Jetta

Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that Jetta is doing GREAT in her new home. Josh and I have been absolutely AMAZED at how well behaved she is. She has never had an "accident" in the house, plays only with her own toys (trust me... she has plenty!) and likes car rides. We take her on walks frequently and she is up for about 1/2 mile jogs with me at one time now. She is doing excellent on leash and no longer minds people walking behind her, or loud vehicles passing by. She is a great guard dog. She meets other people on our walks and is very friendly, and gets along with our neighbor's two Labs, but will still alert us if someone comes to the door. We use the crate sparingly but she "goes to bed" there when we ask her. She sleeps right next to our bed at night. She is truly an amazing dog. We wanted to drop you a line to thank you for the opportunity to adopt Jetta. I can't believe that anyone would throw away such a beautiful, smart, and willing-to-please girl. I hope Jetta realizes by now that she has truly found her "forever home."

I am sending you some pictures of Jetta. Feel free to put them on your Happy Tails. We will drop a line to update you from time to time!

Thanks again - SO much,

Gina (and Josh) Neuman

Doogie

They are doing great!! They play all the time. They both are playing with the "girls", (the two Goldens next door).

I did try him off the leash, and he did get away from me. It was funny though, he stayed in the area. I did have get into my truck to go look for him, and brought Annie with me. He was four houses away, and looked up at my truck when I stopped. He recognized Annie, and came right to me when I got out. We did buy a stake and a wire lead to tie him out. He goes to bathroom better this way, than on a leash.

We did change his name to Buddy. He wouldn't acknowledge, Doogie, when I called, but he does when I say, Buddy. It must be the tone in my voice.

Doogie, Buddy, is excellent with my Grandson! He is so gentle, and is so loving towards him. I trust him around my Grandson, more than Annie, (she is such a Diva)!

He loves my husband! Randy had to go to Atlanta, on business, last week. He was gone a total of 4 days. Buddy, was lost without him. I could see it in his eyes, when he would look at me. Once Randy came back, Buddy had this happy look in his eyes, again.

I can't tell you how happy we are with him! He is a such a good dog!

I'll take a picture of them soon, and send it to you.

I think we both did pretty well.  You were right; she was much more interested in exploring the house than eating.  She did go with Amy and me to get pizza, but we put it in the trunk so as to avoid temptation.  We played with toys last night and I started working with her to sit.  It’s going to be fun, though.  She went to bed without incident (she barked twice but stopped when she figured out I wasn’t coming back out to the utility room).  I actually had to wake her up this morning to go outside.  While outside, she did her tinkle and poop and came back inside where we played until I had to leave for work.  She went right in the cage and laid down with her squeaky bunny.  Thank you for giving me such a delightful little lady!

Blackie

Just a little update on Maddie (Blackie) who's been with us for 2 weeks now.  She is a very good puppy and VERY smart.  She definitely must have lived in a home before you found her in the kennel because she has no problem with messing in the house (only one accident) and she LOVES to sleep on the couch.  She thinks we don't know she is doing that!  Elizabeth has been working with her sitting, coming etc. and you can tell she already knew most of it. She just needs some training on a leash.

Anyway, she is working out well for us and we are glad we have her!

Hi!
Sorry this update has been so long coming. We have been so busy!! We renamed Alex to Harley since we found him with you at the Harley shop!  We even found an orange & black Harley Davidson collar for him---Perfect!!

Harley has been doing great from the time we brought him home! He and our other dog Kozmo have been getting along wonderfully!! They play much of the time & totally wear each other out running around & chasing each other in the back yard!!!  They like to steal toys from each other to get the chasing started! Harley will fake Kozmo out by lying in the grass like he's tired then pounce when Kozmo comes to check on him!!! We all get a kick out of it!! He gets frustrated with our cat who jumps up where he can't play with her so he just sits and barks at her! He has fit in perfectly with our family! I had taken him to the vets office for an update & they just loved him! He is sooo sweet! Always licking!!! He's been great meeting new people. Just loves the attention & loves licking all over them!

He's been doing good with the potty training. Only 2 accidents in the last week! He even wakes me up in the morning by whining or nudging my hand to take him out if the alarm hasn't gone off yet! We still have to put him in the cage when we leave. We have tried leaving him out for short periods and when we get home flip-flops & slippers will be spread through the dining room & living room! He loves to chew so he has plenty of toys & treats to keep him busy!!!
I've included a couple pictures of him & one with him and Kozmo so you can see how he's been growing! When I took him to the vet on the 27th he weighed 17.5 and am sure he's much more than that now! He goes back on the 18th so we'll see how much he's gained then!

Thank you so much for allowing us to adopt and bring him to our home! He couldn't have been a more perfect fit!!!

Chloe

&

Chelsea

The girls are doing absolutely great!! We are so proud of them and how quickly they are learning. Today was the third day in a row we woke up and the girls didn't make a spot in their kennel over night! Last night we had them playing in the living room and four or five times one or the other would run to the back door and have to go out. We really couldn't believe it at first. I saw Chloe go to the door and I looked at Nick like please let this be for real, I let her out (I stayed at the door watching her) and she walked the deck down the stairs and went in the yard!!!!!! She ran right back to me at the door when she was finished. Chelsea just laid on the blanket with Nick and chewed her bone while Chloe went... very surprising because they do EVERYTHING together :) A little later Chelsea did the same thing, went and stood at the back door and did her thing by herself with me at the door watching. They played and when they needed to go out they went to the door and to our surprise "used the potty" every time they went out! We've been keeping a potty pad in the kennel at night, but we keep it folded in to 1/4 of the size of the pad to try and slowly wean them from using it. So far it seems to be working. We understand accidents happen and I'll take an accident any day if 8/10 times they go out side! We pay very close attention to them when they play inside so we know when they look like they need to go out and most of the time we let them out before there is an accident. We have our 6month appt. with Stanley steamer in a couple weeks so we'll get the carpet scotch guarded then. I just can't believe the progress they've made in a week! Anyhow, with the puppy pads, we keep one folded up in the kennel overnight and we take it out during the day. We are still making it home every 3-4 hours (it was 2-3) and they are doing phenomenal! We can't tell you how happy we are with them. We got a potty training book from the trainer and it seems to be giving us a lot of info about dogs in general. I think it's kinda like counseling us how to communicate with them so they understand us. It seems to be working because last night the girls were on the floor with us playing and jumping over us and showing us the affection we've wanted from them! Oh we wanted to tell you NO MORE COUGHING!!! They are taking their meds like champs- now that we've figured out how they will actually take them. Chelsea likes the Red Barn and Chloe likes them in little "pill container" treats. I found them at PetSmart. They are little treats that have a hole in them and you squeeze them shut after you put the meds in the hole. Chelsea wanted nothing to do with them but Chloe loves them.  We will be able to take Chelsea to the vet next Monday. If possible, we could try to get them in sometime this week to at least get their second set of shots... we kept the puppy classes scheduled for Sat. and I know they have to have all their shots before we can take them anywhere. If not we'll work it out. But if nothing can be worked out to move the appointments up, we will still be able to take her to her appt. next Mon. Just let us know about the shots too if you hear anything.

Talk to you later and enjoy the peace and quite... for now,

Annie

I finally got the camera unloaded and onto the computer. So this was probably taken about a month ago making her about 4 months old at the time of the picture. She is now bigger but this is a good pic.

Sugar

Cocoa (a.k.a. "Sugar") has settled in quite nicely. The first few days she was a little unsure of herself and moped around a little bit, I think she missed her sweet foster Mom. She even ran away for a few hours the second day she was with us, but was caught by a neighbor who didn't know she was ours and returned her to the Sylvania Veterinary Clinic where she stayed in a cage until we picked her up. She sure was happy to get home that day! She has found all the soft spots in the house to lie down on, including the patio chairs outside. She loves to be petted and needs lots of attention, which she gets, of course. She follows us all over the house when were home. She's a lot of company and just the sweetest dog. Thanks for finding her for us!

Tiger

Hi Everyone! Have I got a story to tell you! I’m five months old now, and I think I live in the best home in the world! My world didn’t start out so good though, you see.

I was rescued from an awful place called a kill shelter. I don’t know what that is – except a lot of doggies would go someplace and never come back. A nice lady came to get my brother and me and we went for a long car ride. We even changed cars a few times! It was a warm sunny spring day for our ride, (us and two other puppies that looked like teddy bears – or some other fuzzy toy) – I must have eaten something that didn’t quite agree with me, because I was pretty sick most of the trip.

I remember two little girls who were so nice to all of us. When we got into their long playpen – driven by a lady they called “Mi-Mi” – we had so much fun, even though I didn’t feel too good. They had treats and toys for us. They talked so sweet to us and we could pretty much anything we wanted to do! The little girls took our pictures and helped us go potty at one place where we met a bunch of other people who thought we were the cutest puppies they had ever seen! “Mi-Mi” kept singing this silly little song about bugs, but according to the song, she didn’t have any bugs on her. (That’s good ‘cause there ain’t no bugs on me either – and I want it to stay that way!)

Well, my brother and I were taken to a kind lady’s house – and we got to stay there with some other doggies. Karen and Dennis taught us how to sleep in a crate and pick up sticks out in their yard. I got REALLY good at it! A place named “4 Paws Sake” was actually where Karen and Dennis heard about our story. They wanted Timmy and me (Timmy is my brother) to always live together.

Meanwhile, Mi-Mi kept asking about us guys because she said “I touched her heart,” – not sure what that means – since I don’t even know what a heart is….

Karen and Dennis decided they wanted to keep one of us and couldn’t keep us both – so they opted for my brother Timmy. When Mi-Mi found out that I was available without Timmy, she said, “let’s go get him!” After going through the adoption process, my sister, Traci, my new dad and my new little furless sisters came to Toledo on May 5th to pick me up and take me to my furever home on Gulf Road. When they got me – my new furless sisters seemed so familiar to me – I just kept thinking I had met them before. Then – I remembered – they were the little girls that were so nice to me when we took that long car ride and I didn’t feel good!

It took me a couple of weeks to settle in; a couple more weeks to learn to walk with my sisters every morning before school and each night before bed; a couple more weeks to realize where my potty is (not where my other fur sisters and fur brother go potty…. although I tried going in that box for cats – but that was kind of strange…) It also took me a few more weeks to stop scaling the baby gate to see my furry sisters and brother (who stay at the other end of the house when I’m up and about). I’m in Puppy School at Petsmart now, and my mommy (I don’t call her Mi-Mi) says I’m the best kid in the class. I can sit, shake, give a high-five, stay, come, lie down, take it or leave it, although once I take it – it’s hard to let it go! I also watch Mommy when she holds a treat to her eye and says, “Watch me.” Next week at school, I’m going to learn to jump through a hoop and ride a skateboard! Whee!!!

My life is really good. My furless family parades me at the ice cream store and I have daily card rides with my daddy to the bank for snacks, or McDonald’s for a French fry or a burger bite. They usually won’t go anywhere I can’t go. My mommy takes me for rides in her convertible; and she even lets me sit in the front seat because I sit like a big boy and just look around with my fuzzy face blowing in the wind. It’s really a lot of fun!

I know my furless family loves me. I get lots of treats, toys and I have a great fuzzy blankie and soft pillow in my crate. But most of all, I know they all love me because they treat me so well. Of course, the kitties are a different story –

My family is the most important furless pets in the world to me. They give me kisses (maybe not as wet as mine) and they talk ever so sweetly to me. My sisters sit by me on the couch and play catch with me. Because they look the same (some people call them twins…. I think that means they look a lot alike – right?) it’s hard to remember who threw my yellow wiener dog! I missed my brother Timmy for a while, but being a dog, I live in the moment and I’m love every moment of my life with my furless family! Thank you 4 Paws Sake for rescuing me; and thank you Karen and Dennis for training me to sleep by myself and helping me feel secure again. A kill shelter is a scary place to start a life, and I hope every doggie that has to go to one has a happy ending to their story just like mine!

Woof Woof!

Bugsey Knapp

PS – My sister Traci told me that my brother is now called Maverick…. That’s a neat name – Maverick…. That’s like the names in some of those books my daddy reads – he calls them westerns… I don’t know what that is – I just know the paper tears really easy and tastes kind of good! Please tell Maverick hi for me – maybe we’ll see each other again some time!

I AM SURE IT WAS VERY QUIET WITHOUT BAILEY YESTERDAY. THE GIRLS KEPT TALKING ABOUT HOW GREAT IT WAS THAT WE GOT TO ADOPT HIM AND NOW THERE IS ANOTHER SPOT OPEN TO SAVE ANOTHER DOG IN YOUR HOME. THIS HAS BEEN A VERY GOOD LESSON TO THEM AND THEY ARE DOING VERY WELL WITH BAILEY. HE WILL BE GOING TO THE VET NEXT MONDAY. I CALLED THIS MORNING AND GOT THE APPOINTMENT.

HE SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT LAST NIGHT AND I ACTUALLY WOKE HIM UP THIS MORNING TO GO OUT. I THINK THEY WERE ALL TIRED AFTER ALL THE ACTIVITY YESTERDAY OF THE FIRST DAY TOGETHER. THEY ARE ALL RESTING UP THIS MORNING WITH THE GIRLS AT SCHOOL AND JUST ME HOME.
I AM SURE IT IS VERY HARD TO SAY GOODBYE. I KNOW AFTER WE LOST OUR FIRST TWO DOGS BEFORE THE ONES WE HAVE NOW, HOW EMPTY I FELT. YOU ARE A VERY CARING, GIVING PERSON AND WE APPRECIATE YOU GIVING US BAILEY!

WE LEFT HIS LEASH ON HIM YESTERDAY AND HE WOULD JUST RUN AROUND WITH IT. HE NEVER TRIED TO TAKE OFF. HE HUNG OUT WITH THE LAB ALL DAY AND THE LAB STICKS CLOSE TO ME. THEY WOULD SLEEP TOGETHER ON THE DOG BED WE HAVE IN THE KITCHEN AND THEY WERE REALLY CUTE. WE GOT ALL THE GATES PUT UP SO HE IS RESTRICTED TO THE KITCHEN AND LAUNDRY ROOM AREA.
WE WILL KEEP IN TOUCH! HOPEFULLY SOON YOU WILL HAVE ANOTHER PUPPY IN YOUR LIFE TO FILL THE VOID OF BAILEY AND GIVE YOU ANOTHER APPRECIATION OF SAVING ANOTHER PUPPY!

TAKE CARE.

Cadence
(Cady)

We just wanted to let you know Cady is doing well. She is such a sweet dog. She is getting along well with all of our family. Grace (our youngest) likes to feed her dog food from her hand and calls it peanuts. She calls Cady "Ciddy" because she can't quite get the "A" sound right. Mary is so proud of her new dog and takes her on several walks every day. Adam who wasn't sure he wanted a dog has fallen in love with her and she likes to snuggle up with him on the floor. She fits right in as if she was always here.  She has her last dose of antiobiotics tonight. The kids love to watch her eat peanut butter.

We do let her on the couch as she doesn't shed much and I vacuum just
about every day anyway. She sleeps in Mary's room on the extra bed or at Mary's feet.
Thank you for taking such good care of her, we love her and know you
do too. Our next step is for Mary to take her to obedience school this summer.

In appreciation and gratefulness,
Jane, David, Adam, Mary, Gracie and Cady Trosin

I thought it was time to let you know how our little rescue was
doing, we renamed him Rusty and and within a week he was
responding to his new name. he has come a long way in being
house broken, it has been at least 5 weeks sense he  had an
accident in the house. He loves to play with all the toys we
have in the house, outside he is real cute chasing the Frisbee,
and golf balls when we are practicing our chip shots in the
back yard.

I had to move his crate from dining room to our loft bedroom
at night, he is as quiet as a church mouse now that he can see us.

I have brushed his teeth every day and his teeth have very little tarter
left on the back molars.

Thought a few photos would let you see how well he is doing.

Rocky

Hey Kay! That is ok! I know you are getting ready for your 'Bike to the Bay'. Rocky is doing quite well. He has adjusted to our daily life with
ease. This morning was the first time he didn't put up a fight about getting into the crate...of course, if I were him, sleeping on the bed, I would put up a fight too! He is eating well and has yet to again jump the fence. I think he is becoming more comfortable and has less anxiety. Though he tends to sleep on the floor at night at the end of the bed, once we are up, he slithers in to relax. He tends to be possessive of any item he plays with and steals them from Brutus, but this is getting better. I think this was because he had mainly been with female dogs. Of course when Rocky is relaxing or sleeping, Brutus is over there picking on him to play. They love to play!! Rocky has taught Brutus alot of manners so far. I think he does have some separation anxiety from all that he has been through, but he is getting better with this, knowing that we will come back home daily.

He seems to be having some allergies... which is funny as he sounds like a barn animal. He had his first encounter with kids. Their running and
screaming kind of scared him a bit, but it did not take long until he was running after them. He has been wonderful and we love him dearly. Thank
you so much for having cared for Rocky. He couldn't have had a better foster mom! We will stay in touch!

Allison, Josh, Brutus, and Rocky

I have alot of pictures so far and will send them to you once I download them!

Rudi

Rudi is truly a great dog and was made one of the family from day one. His new "condo" is constructed of crates connected together and includes a sleeping area, dining space and an opps area. He very much enjoys selecting toys from his toy box and running them into his newer home. We have also discovered treats are stashed away in the condo for later consumption. Rudi lost two more of his baby teeth (that were discovered) which Mike quickly scooped up to add to his archive. Mike was only offering a quarter under his pillow bed, however I explained that rates are much higher in today's economy. So with Rudi's allowance and tooth money I believe a trip to Petco is close at hand. Rudy's (the 1st) swimming pool was set up for the little guy but seemed a bit big so a quick trip to Toys R Us produced an adequate sized pool for our beginner. Rudi is grateful for the new giant water bowl but my not understand why there are squeaky toys floating about in it.

This week he discovered the YUMMY flavor of Cheerios and is quickly figuring out that when he follows key commands he indulges in the tasty reward. However this has lead to a boyish interest in all things that the human members of the pack are munching on......... "Whatcha got, whatcha got."

On a more serious note, Rudi continues to have a tremendous positive impact on our lives and gives us blue skies that where for a time very gray. The love and affection he receives from Mike and his family, every neighbor on the block as well as myself will keep Rudi bouncing with that spring in his step for all of his days. Again, I am honestly appreciative that you could see that this was the family that Rudi would need and needed Rudi. I look forward to remaining in touch throughout the years and to many future family reunions.

 All The best,

Ereck

Mia is doing well.  She is very chilled out and relaxed.  She does very well with being in her crate when she has to be but doesn’t like being away from us when she is out of her crate and we are home.  Even when she is on the tie-out out back, even if I step into the house just for a moment, she will come and sit by the back door until I return.  We are working on getting her around other dogs and other people.  So far we haven’t had any problems with either of them.  She LOVES other people.  I will be out of town next week, but when I get back we are going to look into obedience training.  Thanks for all your help!

Snoop Dog

&

Harley

Just want you to know that Snoop Dog and Harley are great dogs, and we are so thankful that you told us about them.  We love them to pieces already!!  They are so good to us and also to our grandkids, do not shed, do not bite, love to be loved, and are eating like trojans (dog food, of course).  They really like our huge fenced in yard, and it's fun to see them out there playing together and barking at passersby and bicyclists.  It was the right thing to do to keep them together, and they are adjusting beautifully!!!!!!!!!!

They were groomed about 10 days ago and we just had them bathed yesterday, both at PetSmart in Perrysburg.  They do a wonderful job, and you can tell they love dogs!

Again, many thanks!  Stop by anytime to see them.

Rascal

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Rascal, whom I adopted YESTERDAY, is such a wonderful little man!!

He is absolutely the best dog I've ever had (except of course for my Shadow. She was AWESOME) Rascal does, indeed,, live up to his name.
Julie and Kirk did a wonderful job of fostering him. My husband is amazed at how smart he is!
(here is this big, 6'1" guy, 265 lbs., going "c'mon, Rascal Flatts, come to Daddy" It's hilarious. It's a good thing Rascal isn't a big dog, because the way he follows Joe, if Joe stopped suddenly, guess where the Rascal's head would be??!)

We had a lot of company last night, and Ras was a perfect gentleman.  He would stay at one person's feet for 20 minutes, then move to the
NEXT person for 20 minutes, so nobody would feel left out! =<) He's AWESOME.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for my new best friend.

I love him SO much.

Sincerely,
Cherie Hughes

Walter

You may recall we adopted Walter last week will at the Anderson's. Walter is adjusting very well to our family. Our 5 year old dog has proved to be a mother hen and had been keeping Walter out of trouble. We are working through the puppy bitting stage and normal adjustments.

Here are a few pictures for you.

Thanks,
Karen

Diamond

Diamond is doing great! She has become very attached to both Tony and myself (as we have become just as attached to her). She never lets us out of her sight and sleeps in our bed almost every night. She loves to be outside, in fact, she has learned to pick up her leash and bring it to us when she really wants to go out. We recently took her to a dog park with a beach and learned that she was very eager to go swimming in the lake. She is a good swimmer! She loves the company of other dogs and is always excited to play. Her ear infections that she had when we adopted her are now gone. As she just turned 4 years old in August she weighs a solid 63 lbs. Diamond is very loved and we couldn't be more happy that she is a part of our lives. :)

Snowy

We just wanted to let you all know how Snowy is doing.  I guess the
first big adjustment for her is that we have changed her name to
Jinjer.  She is doing exceptionally well.  She is bonding with all of us,
but especially our oldest daughter Jerekah.  She loves her big
backyard and is interested in everything around her.  She was very low key
the first day or so, but is gradually coming out of her shell.  She
is excited when any of us returns to the house and is the first to
greet us at the door.  She did get carsick on the way home, but we had
expected and prepared for that.  She hasn't had any accidents or
problems in the house.  We have kept her leash on her until we see her
reactions to different things.  Mostly to be cautious with our youngest,
Jeneva and our cat, Jynx.  About the cat - Jinjer is doing very well
with him.  She only shows an interest by perking up her ears when
Jynx darts somewhere (yes, the 19 pound cat can actually dart!).  Jynx
is doing very well with Jinjer also.  He hid for the first day or
two, but he is now moving around as usual.  They will actually lay down
 in the same room.

We would like to thank all of you for your help and caring of
Snowy/Jinjer until we found her.  We really believe that she was destined to
be a part of our family and  we couldn't be happier with her.  Her
temperament and behavior are wonderful as you already know.  She fits
in very nicely with us and seems happy.  She goes for her first vet
check on Friday and I already know our vet is going to love her!
We promise to send pictures soon.
